Getting StartedSafety Stock Shield onboarding
Use this guide to install Safety Stock Shield, enable checkout validation, add storefront messaging, and verify that your safety buffer rules are working before launch.
1. Install and open the embedded app
- Install Safety Stock Shield from the Shopify App Store.
- Approve the app install and the selected billing plan.
- Open the app inside Shopify admin and wait for the dashboard health checks to load.
2. Configure your first rule
- Go to the Rules screen.
- Create a global default rule or target a product, variant, or collection.
- Set the safety buffer quantity that must stay reserved.
- Save and publish the rule so the runtime config is refreshed.
3. Enable server-side validation
- Open Settings inside the app.
- Use the checkout validation action to create or reconnect the validation.
- Confirm the Settings page shows validation as active before testing live carts.
The validation is the final server-side safeguard that blocks cart or checkout quantities that exceed the sellable amount.
4. Enable the theme app extension
- In Shopify admin, go to Online Store and open Customize on the live theme or a staging theme.
- Open App embeds and enable Safety Stock Shield if you want site-wide warning behavior.
- Add the Safety Stock Shield app block to the product template if you want product-page messaging.
- Save the theme changes.
The theme extension is optional for storefront messaging. Checkout validation still enforces the protected buffer even if the block or app embed is not enabled.
5. Run a test scenario
- Choose a product with tracked inventory.
- Create a rule with a small buffer, such as reserving the last 2 units.
- Add a quantity that stays above the buffer and confirm the cart is allowed.
- Add a quantity that would dip into the reserved buffer and confirm the cart or checkout is blocked.
- Review the Events screen in the app to confirm the blocked attempt was recorded.
